5KG RAW Methylcellulose Powder
5kg of RAW untreated, Methylcellulose powder.
Carboxymethyl cellulose (also known as CMC or cellulose gum) is a cellulose derivative bound to some of the hydroxyl groups of the glucopyranose monomers that form the backbone of the cellulose family.
CMC is a water soluble, anionic polymer and is the most commonly used of the cellulosic groups. It is used because it has high viscosity, is non-toxic and is generally considered a hypoallergenic. CMC produces smooth, colourless, transparent solutions.
If using as gunge powder, instructions & measurements ARE NOT provided.
This is an ideal solution for producers, professional users who require more control over the way they use their gunge.
Data Sheets are available here.
CMC has many uses in the kitchen. When added to sugar paste it improves elasticity and strength. The paste can then be rolled very thinly without cracking. It improves the drying time and final hardness of sugar paste, making modelling of intricate sugar flowers much easier!
CMC is used in food under the E number, E466 as a viscosity modifier or thickener and to stabilise emulsions in various products including ice cream. It is used to make ice creams without churning mechanism or extreme low temperatures thereby eliminating the need of the conventional churners or salt ice mixes. CMC is also used extensively in gluten free and reduced fat food products.
Non Food Uses:
It is a component of many non-food products, such as toothpaste, laxatives, diet pills, detergents, various paper products and textile sizing.
CMC is used as a lubricant in artificial tears. CMC is also used in ice packs to form a eutectic mixture resulting in a lower freezing point, and therefore more cooling capacity than ice. In veterinary medicine, CMC is used in abdominal surgeries in large animals, particularly horses, to prevent the formation of bowel adhesions.
